We were each born with an active imagination and creativity. We've never really lost it. It may have become buried under the weight of life, lists, and deadlines. Slowly we become disconnected from our inner child and lose sight of our childlike wonder and curiosity. Below are a few ideas to spark your creative genius and keep it healthy and thriving.
1. Practice doing nothing
We are constantly on the go. We have things to do, places to be, deadlines to meet, and schedules to keep. Stop. Take a day or an hour to do nothing, think nothing. Calm your mind and allow your entire body to relax. Practicing this will cause your mind to reprogram, free itself of the clutter, and reset to its imaginative state.
2. Take time to smell the daisies, literally
Get out into nature. Experience the uniqueness of the world around you. Let yourself be awed by God's creations. Get out of your home office, log off of social media, and find a place outside to sit for a break. Take a walk. Sit in the sunshine. Breathe deeply.
3. Laugh and play
Set your inner-child free. Dance to your favorite songs and allow yourself to be silly and spontaneous. Set time aside to be creative with crafts, adult coloring books, diamond painting. I love working on the one I purchased. It helps me to relax and unwind. Check it out here.
4. Challenge your senses
Concentrate on the sights, smells, and sounds around you. Notice all beauty that's around you. Reach beyond the obvious. Listen to the birds, the traffic, the sounds of laughing children. Also, diffusing certain essential oils can increase focus and decrease fatigue. Some of my favorite essential oils are peppermint, sweet orange, spearmint, rosemary, and lemon.
5. Future Casting.
Put your thoughts, dreams, and desires on paper. Be detailed when describing your vision noting the precise place, smells, and emotions you'll experience having accomplished them.
6.Realize there is no box
Step out of your comfort zone by doing something completely new. Try something that scares you a little, nothing too hardcore, but something that will make you feel yourself come alive.
7. Imagine yourself in your own perfect big world
Bring your ultimate dreams and desires into focus, savoring every detail.
8. Stop listening to that negative voice
Learn to turn off that voice that says, "I can't", "Who do you think you are?", or "When all conditions are right, I'll...". That voice will kill your dreams. Don't let it. Listen to your intuition!
9. Applaud yourself for trying
'Got a plan? Are you working on it? Good! My mom always said, "Nothing beats a Fail, like a Try!" Give yourself a pat on the back and pop your collar. Realize that progress of any kind is still progress. Having tried any of those things on your goals list is an accomplishment. Keep trying.
Exploring your creative genius can be your key to happiness, contentment, and success. Life is full of possibilities when you are open to them.
